The War Pensioners Welfare Service, in conjunction with Leeds Mind and Combat Stress, is providing a new service for those experiencing emotional stress or other problems including posttraumatic stress.

Self-help groups are held in a non-judgemental and non-advice-giving environment, using a strategy developed by the Self-Help Initiative project of Leeds Mind.

Individuals do not have to be referred to this program; it is their own decision and participation is confidential. Initial contact may be by e-mail to PTS self-help group or by ‘phoning Helen Singleton, Welfare Manager, on 0113 283 6568, or Leeds Mind on 0113 2307608

The groups are initially being held in Leeds and York, with plans to expand early in 2006, probably starting with Huddersfield.

Leeds Mind also provides one to one counselling, with some of its team of over twenty counsellors specialising in posttraumatic stress.

Participants in this program have also been welcomed to the social functions of Leeds Branch, YVRA and helped contribute to a lively Christmas party at the Grove Inn, Holbeck.

An extremely thorough view of the needs of persons experiencing post traumatic stress has been written by Revd Jim Butterworth, known to many former Yorkshire Volunteers as our Regimental Padré. This is available to download (all 54 pages) as .pdf . Just click on the links below.
